Ritual & Repetition
So, the source of this whole Mighty Octopus Army is the first project in my Concept Development class.  The project is based on the act of repetition, of making multiples, and doing the same simple task, every single day.  Twice a day, really.  100 things in 50 days. Crochet is already quite repetitive, and making octopuses is both simple and enjoyable.  The idea of making 100 crocheted...

This semester, I’m taking a class called Wearable Technology 2, and we have a class blog to document our work, share information and resources, and let each other know of events and shows going on.  Last semester’s blog (from Wearable Tech 1) can be found here: http://blog.ocad.ca/wordpress/gdes3b16-fw2010-01/

Yesterday/last I night I made a couple more octopuses (not octopi): a green(ish) one of soft merino wool and a smaller fat one of navy super-wash wool.  It’s so satisfying making the tentacles twirl/curl up.  I also LOVE making one of them just a little bit shorter.  Sometimes I make them all varying lengths, like a mix it up between 5, 6, & 7 stitches.

And the army of octopuses begins. Done today: two; one of chunky navy, and one of stringy green.
