I acquired my Aussie Grandmother’s stamp collection over the holidays (Christmas), and as part of final semester procrastination, I decided to finally look through them this morning.  I still have to organise them, etc, but here are some of my favourites.

Also, what happened to stamp design?

The zine I just finished (this image as the cover).

This one has been a long time in the making: I collected/kept a lot of things from my trip down under (four years ago) with the intent to make a rad zine.

I really hope I’ve lived up to my own expectations.

(Just one of the handful of zines I’ll be selling at the OCAD Zine Fair in a week or so.)

Currently watching this and making a zine about travelling escaping.

THIS MAP IS AN OFFICIAL DOCUMENT.  IF FOUND, IT MUST BE HANDED IN TO THE NEAREST MILITARY HEADQUARTERS OR POLICE STATION.

Topographical map of Orroroo, South Australia, printed in 1942.

From Australia, with love.

My mum is Australian; from a small town called Orroroo in South Australia.  This past fall (Australian spring) she went back to the house where she grew up, back to the house where -until recently- my soon-to-be 88 year old grand mother still lived on her own, back to the house that has been in our family since at least the 1880s, and brought me back some cool old things. (That was not the reason for her going, but a result)

As requested, she brought me old maps she could find, and her old cameras.  The maps are all of Orroroo, dating from 1935 until 1959.  The cameras include a couple of old Brownies (one of them with her name scratched in the top, and the date, 1963), as well as an old folding autographic camera, maybe from the 1920s?  Also, a book I can find no information about (including publication date which seems to be printed no where in the book) called The Modern Letter Writer, and it’s an instructional guide on how to properly write letters.  (Helloooooo thesis prep!)

Thanks mum: you did good.

Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed.

So my awesome friend Hillary got me an envelope of Australian stamps (I love how well my friends know me), and one of them is basically my grandmother’s house (who does live in Australia).  I don’t know much about the history of ‘Pioneer Shelters’ but I do know my grandma’s house has been in her family since at least the 1880s.  My mum is there now, with her sister, trying to sell my grandmother’s amazing antique collection.  If you can get to Orroroo in October, check it out!

I’d cross oceans for you.

I was reminded of the bed sheets I “made” when I was in Australia.  I never took a photo of them, so I had to grab a screen shot from a video a took while there.

I may need to feature grumpy-monster-face in more things I make… also, I should name him.

Suggestions?

For my favourite Mess.
