I’m leaving for Toronto on the 8th of June!
I’ll be there for 9 days, coming back to Montreal on the 17th, in time for Emma’s commencement on the...
Sent out mail to:
and sent out two postcards to people on postcrossing.
The money is gone and we are out of ice. Things are wronged and still getting wronger. Email $500 as soon as possible.
Hello there, Crash Course, and welcome to tumblr!
The Crash Course tumblr was founded minutes ago by our made-of-awesome nerdfighter intern...
Finally: I combined two great loves of mine, maps and mail.
The world map is above my bed on a board, with pins stuck in to track/represent the pen-pals I have from different places. Yellow are the pen pals I know [IRL], blue are the pen pals I don’t know [IRL], orange are the post cards I’ve received via PostCrossing, and white is Toronto (where I live).
Around the board are some mail art things: a couple I’ve made, but I’d like it to be all the little things people send me along with their amazing letters.
I also hope this will help me with my geography. Elija: loves maps; terrible at geography.
Another hand made book!
“I’m on a roller coaster that only goes up, baby.”
The paper is more of the hand made stuff I made from an old algebra book. The cover is an [Australian] air mail envelope, and hand stamped on the front. It’s all hand sewn/bound.
Not going to lie, this might be one of the coolest things I’ve made (but I’m bias).
Oh, and I finally got two different kinds of air mail tape that I ordered from Etsy.
If you want to know how excited I am about this, look into my eyes. I gots crazy eyes for this tape, man.
Seriously: look at those crazy eyes.
Business cards: I made them.
Old envelopes have been cut up and and hand stamped by yours truly.
(some stamps have been hand carved by me, some designed by me and laser cut, and I got some new ones that are all old fashion air mail designs)
New Year; New Format
So, almost three years ago now I started my letter writing blog, Someone To Write To. With my thesis prep starting this year, which will involve letters and mail, I felt a resurgence of the old project was necessary. However, as the format of the old blog was hard to maintain (especially as it was created on an old unchangeable e-mail address), I’ve decided to do all further up-keeping from a new tumblog.

Please follow, spread, and write.
Sincerely,
Someone to Write to
(me, Elija!)
All of my letters. All of them.
I’ve gone through them all, just looking at post marks right now (also known as “franks”); I picked out twelve really good ones (out of how many, I don’t know, I haven’t actually counted yet). I’m going to scan them and manipulate them; for several reasons, one of them being I’m designing a tattoo to get before my 25th birthday (the end of the month!).
I’m going to get franked for my 25th.
Also, add to this collection? My Someone to Write to project needs love.
More printing with dye; these prints done with a similar technique as standard screen printing, but with a dye mixture instead of fabric paint.
The squares started as yellow, and more red dye-paste was added/mixed directly on the screen.
The squares and the envelope were not exposed as the Dinosquid was (last spring), but the design was painted directly onto the screen with a resist, let dry, and then the screen was covered with a thin layer of screen filler. Once dry, the resist was washed out. This is not only a great way to create hand-fluid designs, but a way to print without exposing screens (as that’s not always available/an option). However, this technique is not as long lasting as exposed screens, and the screen filler will erode with power washing/excessive use.
The first of many, I’m sure.
The material is some canvas I have left over, which I chose for its solid nature. Perhaps next time I’ll wait until I’ve embroidered everything to cut out the envelope shape (the corners are a bit fluffy…).
Next: paper to put inside?
For my favourite Mess.
