There’s something wonderful about Marvin Bileck’s minimal illustrations for All About the Stars.
Why not start your morning by learning all about… time travel? This is my TEDxUofT talk that just went online TODAY, and it features JOKES and...
Remember that time we made a music video? lol
Annnnnddd it’s off! Out of my hands! Into the void!
I’m so excited and nervous and all of the emotions.Stay tuned.
One of my summer projects! Hooray!
(Follow its progress!)
Finally: I combined two great loves of mine, maps and mail.
The world map is above my bed on a board, with pins stuck in to track/represent the pen-pals I have from different places. Yellow are the pen pals I know [IRL], blue are the pen pals I don’t know [IRL], orange are the post cards I’ve received via PostCrossing, and white is Toronto (where I live).
Around the board are some mail art things: a couple I’ve made, but I’d like it to be all the little things people send me along with their amazing letters.
I also hope this will help me with my geography. Elija: loves maps; terrible at geography.
Alright, sorry for the long hiatus!
As I said in my previous post, I’m creating a book to travel around (internationally, if there’s interest).
If you’d like to be a part of this, please email b.o.o.k.s.in.the.post [at] gmail [dot] com
(Yes, I had to go through a lot of different e-mail…
I’d like to make a book (as in make the paper and bind it myself, y’all), and have it travel around to people through the wonderful postal system. I know people have done these types of projects before, but I haven’t.
The project would be something like as follows:
I make a book. I have a list of 5 to 10 (?) people that this particular book will travel to, before returning to me. The recipients of this book with write/draw/alter this book in any way they choose, and then pass it on to the next person on the list. They are also invited to check in with me (digitally) when they have received the book, etc. When the book (finally) returns to me, I will scan the entire travelled book, and digitally send out PFDs to the participants, as well as probably some thank you mail, etc.So the question is: is there enough interest in participating in this project? If so, please reblog this post, follow this tumblr, send it it people you’d think want to participate. If there’s enough interest, I’d really like to get something going by the end of the month (which means I’ve got to make a heap of paper by then, etc.)
Thanks!
A different kind of post card.
Another postal experiment to my partner in crime (my brother). I recently acquired a pile of these library slips and am not sure what to do with them all: sending some through the post seems appropriate.
Seriously good mail haul today.
It’s been a mild winter in general, and quite a good past few days, but apparently it will start snowing tonight and won’t stop for a couple of days. As an avid cyclist (who owns a shitty bike), I decided to take advantage of the clear roads before the predicted “Snowmageddon” was to take place.
My post box delighted me with a post card from the States, a letter from the Philippines (with awesome drawings in the letter margins), a map envelope from a friend, a letter from the States, and another letter from a friend. I have yet to read them, but tonight will consist of reading & responding to about ten or so letters (so if you’ve written to me and I haven’t gotten back to you: fear not!)

Tonight, I made David Shrigley inspired post cards. Want one? Message me your address! The first people to do so will get one at random until they’re all gone.
Maybe I’ll make more/do this again at some point?
(If you know I already have your address, just reply to this post.)
This summer I started writing to strangers who I came to understand and love. These are all the letters & postcards I have gotten ever since. Thank you to everyone who let me express myself and share my thoughts. Thank you TaMyra; Jamie; Hannah; David; Fabiola &; Stephen ! With the new year rolling in, I hope we keep writing letters. & hopefully the new year will ring in some new friends (:
My friend Perry always made the best envelopes. Also, he’s written me some super rad letters.
Mail Enthusiasts believe that there is something special and distinctly personal about handwritten, pen and ink, interesting “snail mail”, and SendSomething.net is the place on the interwebs for making these connections. A simple user interface, powerful search, and password security combine to make a unique and safe experience for senders and recipients alike.
This is amazing (if it works?) and I just signed up.
Letters with wax seals!
I’m off to Toronto’s First Post Office to post these, as it’s the only place in the city that can process letters with seals; they hand cancel (frank) the letters/postage; machines do it at other post offices, and break the seal.
One is going to Germany, one is going to Australia, one is going to someplace else in Toronto, and the TARDIS blue beauty is winging its way to a tumblroo in the States.
New Year; New Format
So, almost three years ago now I started my letter writing blog, Someone To Write To. With my thesis prep starting this year, which will involve letters and mail, I felt a resurgence of the old project was necessary. However, as the format of the old blog was hard to maintain (especially as it was created on an old unchangeable e-mail address), I’ve decided to do all further up-keeping from a new tumblog.

Please follow, spread, and write.
Sincerely,
